Gregory d'Alessio
With his reputation as an organizer, d'Alessio was a natural to draw in his cartoonist buddies for a bond drive. Prior to the 1929 stock market crash, he was a Wall Street bank teller. Having been exposed to cartooning during his high school years while working as a reporter for the Brooklyn Eagle, d'Alessio decided to return to this medium during the Depression, when jobs were few and far between. His first cartoon appeared in The Saturday Evening Post in 1932. Throughout the decades-long career that followed, Gregory also taught at the Art Students League. His best-known achievement was the panel series These Women, distributed by Publishers Syndicate.
